Zingers

December 11, 2022

Kade wakes up in a black room with blue stripes going up and down the walls. There's a white brick wall in the center of the room. He jumps as he wakes up a bit, taking a look around to get a good look of his surroundings, before slowly approaching the brick wall. On approaching it a street light that is partly phasing through the ceiling flickers on. The light glitches like that of a video game as a gander slumps halfway over the wall. It's a large dog-like creature with a large tooth filled smile and beady eyes. It has large paws with long claws and a strange voice, "Why hello there."

Kade jumps back a bit as he gave an immediate response, "Ay, what the fuck-" before immediately trying to fix himself, "Oh. Hi."

"Kade is it?" the gander tilts his head some.

"Yes, it is. Why?? And how??"

"I had some wonderful news to bring you and your friends!"

Kade looks it over some, raising an eyebrow "Yyeah? That being?"

"You wouldn't want to hurt your friends would you?"

Kade shakes his head "No, not at all."

"I have a safer way of completing a task your friends have taken up. I assume that would be ideal?"

Kade hums, before nodding slowly "It.. would be? I believe."

"Get a small container and rather than having to kill them, collect a tear from each for me."

Kade looks like none of this registers into his brain at all, but nods nonetheless "I'll.. be sure to relay the information? That's what I should do, right?"

"Indeed" the gander nods "Now that that's out of the way I was curious about you."

"Oh, yeah?" Kade's slightly nervous with that.

"How did you get your name? Any special story?"

"Uhh," Kade shrugs. "I was born with it? Or given it. Or just.. happened to remember it like it hit me out of the sky." he gives a weak chuckle.

"Very peculiar origin then. Do you not have a mother or father to consult about the origin of it?"

"I probably do, but I just so happen to not remember anything from my earlier years. From my earliest memory, I've been alone."

"Why that is quite sad, I would hate myself if that were the case for me...do you hate yourself?" the gander asks without changing their tone any.

Kade is surprised by that, but shakes his head, "Well.. no- not really, surprisingly." he chuckles.

"I've just. Rolled with it."

"Would having another friend help with that?"

"Maybe? I like friends-"

Gander’s smile curls as he leans in closer, "We could be friends, I see us as friends don't you?"

Kade is visibly even more nervous with this, but smiles, giving a thumbs up, "Offff course! I definitely see you as a friend."

They lean in more, "And friends do favors for each other right?"

Kade resists the urge to step back, smiling more nervously now. "Definitely!"

They pull away from Kade, "Wonderful. Then the zingers won't be too tricky to deal with."

He breathes a sigh of relief "Oh, definitely! They will absolutely be handled."

"I’ve already informed your other friends through similar dreams. You must seek out a nonferal world based being I call a Zinger. They are representations, bearers of strength that must fall. The plan originally was to kill them but I’ve found a safer way. Bring me the tear of each zinger and all will be well again. No blood has to be shed. Understood?"

He gives two thumbs up "Haha, yes, understood...What do you mean by well again?"

"Things will make sense at the end of it" Kade feels arms grabbing on his ankles. Gander's tone shifts slightly, "She really killed it this game."

Kade freezes up the moment he feels arms grabbing on his ankles, looking down immediately. He suddenly wakes up from his nightmare after seeing a singular eye.
